4 Month Check-up

Yesterday was Riley's 4 month check-up. She weighed in at 13 lbs 8 oz (34th percentile) was 24.5 inches long (50th percentile) and head circumference was 42.3 cm (75th percentile). She's doubled her birth weight (minus the Hygroma) which is where she should be at this point. The Doctor was impressed with how strong she is and how well she's done with her Physical Therapy.

I thought it would be interesting to see what Riley's half siblings stats were at their 4 month check-up. (Hope you guys don't mind!) Length they're all about the same but what a difference in weight. Both Andrew and Riley Elizabeth weighed just over 2 lbs more than Riley. Somehow we've ended up with a petite child. We always joke that she's the only petite thing in the house. I was small as a baby, 5 lbs 6 oz when I was born. I stayed small until I hit puberty and then watch out. I filled out fast and have been that way ever since. It was also fun to look at her half siblings 4 month pictures versus Riley now. You can absolutely see the similarities in the three kids.

Of course she got her shots yesterday. Needless to say it was a rough night and it's been a rough day. She's never screamed as hard as she did when they poked those huge needles in her leg. I'm not afraid of needles but my hell, against her tiny little legs, those needles were huge! She screamed for about a minute before we were able to calm her down. Once we got her home we got our happy baby back for a little while before bed. Bed is another story. She didn't cry much but she tossed and turned and whimpered all night. Poor thing. I hope she sleeps it off tonight. She needs her rest because she's got her big Vegas Vacation coming up on Friday!!!

Speaking of Vegas Vacation. She's already got all of her clothes packed she's so excited! She couldn't decide what to pack for five days so being the girl that she is, she way over packed! But every girl needs a casual and dressy outfit per day of vacation, right?

I'll post a couple pictures tomorrow before we head out on our big Vegas Vacation.

What a great doctor report - she is growing well! Yay!!!! Have a great time in Vegas and no worries about the overpacking...I've never taken a single vacation with my kids where I *haven't* overpacked for them and yet, I'm always grateful I did because they end up going through almost everything. :) Happy travels!

Great report!
Andrew is high in the weight department, but he is shorter than Riley Elizabeth. He's a little stocky. Andrew also has a large head, but they've never measured it.
Can't wait for more pictures!
And the Vegas Vacation sounds awesome! So jealous!
I need to get to Vegas. I've never been, but now I have family there. My cousin even works at New York, New York casino! Hope you have a blast!

What works on one kids doesn't always on another, BUT my girls did best after shots when I layed a warm receiving blanket over their legs (or put it under their legs if they were on their tummies). I would put the blanket in the dryer or microwave until it was just warm (not hot). Hope you have found something to help little Riley. Have fun in Vegas!

Happy 4 months, Riley! So glad that she's doing well!

It's really interesting to see her stats compared to her 1/2 siblings. I guess the donor has a big head since they all have huge noggins. LOL. I also have a big head which is why her head is always in the 85-90th percentile.

Riley's 4th month check-up was also done at 4.5 months so she was a little bigger. But she's always been higher in the weight department.

I can't wait to see the similarties as they get older. It's so interesting! And hopefully we can all meet up one day. :)

Shots are the worst! It seems like they could have some kind of medicated patch these days...
We used to plan ahead and make sure she'd be ready to nurse and take her straight from the table to the breast. It seemed to always help Gray. And I would hold onto her little legs as tight as I could until she calmed.
bla bla.
Anyway, have a great time in Vegas! Don't forget to buy her something flashy for the evenings!

Tylenol and a warm bath.
AND they tell you to massage the area...are you kidding me...why don't I kick you in the leg and then massage it :)

Wished you would have included a picture :)
Have fun in Vegas soon !

Excellent!. She is petite, although my Emma's stats were about the same at 5.5 months. she's petite, too, except for her voice. She is a screamer, too. I can hear her when I'm outside and all the windows and doors are closed. She just loves to open up the lungs and let 'er rip. I used to think it was fun, too - for about a minute.

I need a Riley fix!!!!

Our Conception Story

After eight years together we were pretty sure we'd spend our life with our four legged kids, doing lots of camping, and traveling the world. On August 12, 2004 that all changed with the birth of our God Daughter Tate. We immediately fell completely in love with her and soon began to re-think our decision of not having kids.

In October 2005 we began the process of trying to conceive. As soon as we started trying Shelly began having very erratic cycles which made the process that more complicated. After four tries over six months we decided to schedule a consultation with the a Reproductive Specialist. We were desperate to conceive and on a limited time frame since Shelly had just turned 41. Dee was 35 at the time but not able to conceive due to a medical procedure.

Our first appointment with the Repro Man was May 2006. He suggested we try IVF using Dee's eggs and Shelly as the gestational mother. He felt this scenario would give us the highest chance for success of a healthy pregnancy. We spent a short amount of time weighing our options and decided this was the best choice. We began our first IVF cycle in August. They did the Egg Retrieval and Fertilization on 8/31. Three days later, 9/3, they transferred three embryos into Shelly. Then the wait began.

Shelly promised not to begin the home pregnancy test too soon. Dee had to travel out of state for business a week after the transfer and asked Shelly to please wait to test. BUT, the wait was too much for her and she started testing after a week. At first there was no line. But after a couple of days testing a faint line started to appear. When Dee came home from her trip Shelly told her, "I know I'm pregnant." Dee didn't believe her and insisted the line wasn't dark enough so she tested herself to compare. There was absolutely no line. She began to believe Shelly was pregnant but still had doubt. Dee went to the store and bought another brand of testing strips. After five home tests, we were convinced we we're pregnant due to all positive results. A blood test at two weeks confirmed it; we were going to have a baby!
