Oh WOW-A

Miss Riley is using more and more words, almost on a daily basis but I have a new favorite. The other day I decided on my way home from work she needed a new toy. I new that she desperately needed some giant Lego type blocks and it had been awhile since she'd had a new toy. Okay really, it's been a month and 1/2 since her birthday, and maybe I just felt like shopping! So I stopped at the Big Red Bulls Eye and picked up the Little People Build n Fun Playground.

As I set her new adventure set in front of her she grabbed it and with big eyes said, "Oh wow-a". And then repeated it several times. Shelly and I just sat there stunned. "Did she just say wow?" Yep, she sure did. But in her child like way, it was with much more enthusiasm, and then there's that special "a" on the end. She continued repeating "Oh wow'a" throughout the night.
The next day I pondered how she could have learned the word wow and then used it so appropriately. By noon I'd figured it out. I'd already used the word 5 times by lunch. I didn't even know wow was a major word in my vocabulary. People tell me stories and I respond with "wow". What the heck? Is my vocabulary not larger than "wow" as a response to another persons tales. What other basic three little words am I teaching my little one. Hopefully I'll pass something on to her a little more useful in life than wow. Wait, I've made this about me, back to Miss Riley.
So after her initial evening of "wow-ing" us she didn't use the term for several days. Then two days ago Grammy stopped by to visit. Grammy walks in, says hi to Rowdy Riley, and Riley responds "hi, wow-a". Okay, maybe she didn't use it in the right context but I'm sure she just wanted Grammy to hear her new word. Wow-a is now a member of her daily vocabulary. Here's a list of other words commonly heard coming from Rowdy's mouth. Not all are intelligible to the average listener but her Mommie's know what she's saying.
  • Hi (Lots of hand waving accompanies this.)
  • Tree (tee)
  • Baby (She really says "da bay bee" because we always say "where's the baby?" or "is that your baby?" so she always adds "da" to baby.)
  • Dirt (This is said with an English accent.)
  • Blue (boo)
  • Out
  • Off (She says this when we turn the TV off.)
  • Read (ead)
  • Steve (Deve)
  • Momma
  • Wow (Oh wow-a)
  • Doggie (oggie)
  • Morgie
  • Roxy (ox)
  • Ball
  • Baba (for bottle)
  • Drink (you know where this is going, sounds like "dink")
  • This (Sounds like "dis" which I told Grandpa Joe is her Dutch coming out as the, this and that all sound like da, dis and dat in Dutch.)
  • Riley (Said just once but she clearly repeated her name.)
Pictured above, our HAPPY baby. She's always smiling, giggling, and playing. But notice her new obsession, the wrist rattles from when she was a baby. It's her new fashion accessory. And they must remain on at all times. We are able to sneak them off for dinner and bed. But don't let her see them or she'll demand her bracelets be placed back on her wrists.

She's so cute and so smart. I can't get over how much our Riley's are alike. Our Riley is also obsessed with wearing bracelets and dressing up! I can't wait for the day they meet. I think they'll hit it off. ;)

Oh yes I'm convinved that all the girls from (insert donor # here) will be obsessed with making fashion statements early on in life. Our Riley is a girly girl already at 17 months old.

She is obsessed with hats, purses, things on her wrists, clothing, wearing baby legs on her arms.

It's sooo cute!!! We have to work to get the kids together to get a group shot one day in the future!

So somehow I lost you and thought you stopped blogging - very happy to find you again and to see how big your baby girl is getting.
Have a great weekend.

I love it when children "desperately" need toys. It happens to mine all the time. LOL. Riley is too cute - and I love "wow-a"!

Wow! I'm impressed with all her words. The twins are 16 months and say nothing - not the word, just nothing.
She is precious as ever and these are the best times you'll ever know. Enjoy them!
PS - my new obsession is Mia Michaels from "So You Think You Can Dance". LOVE HER!

Mia was TOTALLY mean last week! Weird.
BTW - the post about Justice was an amazing tribute. God bless him and his moms.

Our Conception Story

After eight years together we were pretty sure we'd spend our life with our four legged kids, doing lots of camping, and traveling the world. On August 12, 2004 that all changed with the birth of our God Daughter Tate. We immediately fell completely in love with her and soon began to re-think our decision of not having kids.

In October 2005 we began the process of trying to conceive. As soon as we started trying Shelly began having very erratic cycles which made the process that more complicated. After four tries over six months we decided to schedule a consultation with the a Reproductive Specialist. We were desperate to conceive and on a limited time frame since Shelly had just turned 41. Dee was 35 at the time but not able to conceive due to a medical procedure.

Our first appointment with the Repro Man was May 2006. He suggested we try IVF using Dee's eggs and Shelly as the gestational mother. He felt this scenario would give us the highest chance for success of a healthy pregnancy. We spent a short amount of time weighing our options and decided this was the best choice. We began our first IVF cycle in August. They did the Egg Retrieval and Fertilization on 8/31. Three days later, 9/3, they transferred three embryos into Shelly. Then the wait began.

Shelly promised not to begin the home pregnancy test too soon. Dee had to travel out of state for business a week after the transfer and asked Shelly to please wait to test. BUT, the wait was too much for her and she started testing after a week. At first there was no line. But after a couple of days testing a faint line started to appear. When Dee came home from her trip Shelly told her, "I know I'm pregnant." Dee didn't believe her and insisted the line wasn't dark enough so she tested herself to compare. There was absolutely no line. She began to believe Shelly was pregnant but still had doubt. Dee went to the store and bought another brand of testing strips. After five home tests, we were convinced we we're pregnant due to all positive results. A blood test at two weeks confirmed it; we were going to have a baby!
