We're currently in the "In Between" stage. It's too early for Shelly to feel the little one and we're two weeks from the next doctors appointment. It's "in between" for us because it's been two weeks since our last appointment with two more to go. It's hard when you can't feel the LO yet. Shelly's starting to feel better which makes you then start to worry..."Is everything okay? Is the baby okay? etc., etc., etc, etc. " You expectant mothers all know what I'm talking about. How do you get through it? We're seriously thinking of renting a doppler for the next couple of months so we can hear the heartbeat until Shelly can start to feel the LO kick. It would be fun to have a doppler over the Christmas holidays so that we can let the family hear Little One's heartbeat. Anyone else rent a doppler? Is it worth it? I'm interested to hear what think.
On another note, I'm miles and miles from home in St. Louis on business. :( Shelly, my three four legged kids, and the Little One are all curled up together at home in front of a fire watching COPS. Yes, Cops. One of Shelly's favorite shows. It's a good thing I'm out of town so she can enjoy watching it because it's NOT a favorite of mine. I MISS YOU GUYS! Luckily my trip is ending early which means if the flights are available I'll be home a day early!

Our Conception Story
After eight years together we were pretty sure we'd spend our life with our four legged kids, doing lots of camping, and traveling the world. On August 12, 2004 that all changed with the birth of our God Daughter Tate. We immediately fell completely in love with her and soon began to re-think our decision of not having kids.
In October 2005 we began the process of trying to conceive. As soon as we started trying Shelly began having very erratic cycles which made the process that more complicated. After four tries over six months we decided to schedule a consultation with the a Reproductive Specialist. We were desperate to conceive and on a limited time frame since Shelly had just turned 41. Dee was 35 at the time but not able to conceive due to a medical procedure.
Our first appointment with the Repro Man was May 2006. He suggested we try IVF using Dee's eggs and Shelly as the gestational mother. He felt this scenario would give us the highest chance for success of a healthy pregnancy. We spent a short amount of time weighing our options and decided this was the best choice. We began our first IVF cycle in August. They did the Egg Retrieval and Fertilization on 8/31. Three days later, 9/3, they transferred three embryos into Shelly. Then the wait began.
Shelly promised not to begin the home pregnancy test too soon. Dee had to travel out of state for business a week after the transfer and asked Shelly to please wait to test. BUT, the wait was too much for her and she started testing after a week. At first there was no line. But after a couple of days testing a faint line started to appear. When Dee came home from her trip Shelly told her, "I know I'm pregnant." Dee didn't believe her and insisted the line wasn't dark enough so she tested herself to compare. There was absolutely no line. She began to believe Shelly was pregnant but still had doubt. Dee went to the store and bought another brand of testing strips. After five home tests, we were convinced we we're pregnant due to all positive results. A blood test at two weeks confirmed it; we were going to have a baby!

Go back a few weeks in our archives and you'll see a post almost identical to this one! We've had "in-between-itis" several times during this pregnancy and expect we'll experience it again before the whole journey is over. You really want to be happy when the nausea subsides and she starts to feel better, but then the worry hits just like you said! So...we DID buy a doppler. Yes, I said buy...not rent. It was a Hi Bebe fetal doppler and cost about $150 on eBay and it has been absolutely worth every penny! The unit displays the heartbeat number in beats per minute and lets us hear the whoosh-whoosh-whoosh our biscuit's heart is making. It's so very comforting to both of us. We have been pretty good about not over-using it though and have restricted ourselves to about once a week so far but I think we'd have gone a bit mad without it!
We hope your "in-between-itis" finds a respite soon!

It's normal to worry and even when you feel the baby move, you'll still worry. Pregnancy is hard that way.
I would just relax. We never rented a doppler. I mean, chances are, things are going just fine. You just have to tell yourself that and realize that chances are, if something were to go wrong, you'd know! It's extremely rare for something to happen without some kind of sign.
If you really need a doppler, go for it. Otherwise, rest assured that your worries are normal and the stage you're at is the "I don't feel pregnant" stage that everyone hits. :)
Like Stacey stated we experienced the same one. This was my modo: If Stacey is not bleeding or experiencing pain then everything is ok. Your body will send you signs if something is wrong. Don't worry.
I don't want to discourage you from getting a doppler but one of the reasons why we didn't rent one was because some studies show that it's not ideal for the baby. It still sends out some kind of radio waves which disturbs the baby. They tell you to have as less U/S as possible and radio waves are included in that even tho they are not as bad as U/S. We did have a 7wks U/S for viability and our 20wk level 2 U/S. We are also having a 3D U/S at 30wks. We weren't going to because we didn't want to disturb our little one but we figure Riley will be ok at 30wks.
Something to think about I guess.
Hi Mommies-to-be:
I know you are anxious to experience everything. It's hard for me to say the doppler is a good thing or a bad thing. It's more of a personal preference. But I do have to tell you that the frequency-waves do have a possibility of disrupting the CNS, but no proven fact. There are research studies on both sides.
I for one played soothing music, read and talked to my LO while in my belly, and provided the daily comfort that comes with the unknown parenting zone. ... and singing, lots of singing.
My Daughter is 19 yrs old now, and loves music, plays guitar, has a great singing voice, loves to read, and is majoring in phsychology (forensic). How about that!!
Belly gymnastics began (for me) about the 3rd month.
Exciting times!! Very exciting!!
Any specific cravings yet?
